Basketball Recap: West Brunswick Takes a Loss

West Brunswick was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by the New Hanover Wildcats and fell 79-45. The Trojans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 61-21.

When it comes to explaining why West Brunswick lost, don't look at AJ Thomas. Despite the final result, he went 5 of 9 on his way to 11 points and five rebounds. Those five boards gave Thomas a new career-high. Caden McMillian also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

New Hanover's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rodmik Allen, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine assists. Allen is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Nolan Billings, who went 7 for 10 en route to 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

West Brunswick's loss dropped their record down to 9-9. As for New Hanover, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-2.

West Brunswick didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-52 win against Topsail on the 31st. New Hanover has also already played their next matchup, a 79-29 victory against Ashley on the 31st.
