Basketball Recap: Steinbrenner Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Steinbrenner and Sickles squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Steinbrenner had to settle for second. They took a 60-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sickles Gryphons. The Warriors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Gryphons earlier this season, when they won 56-45.

Steinbrenner's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Avery Adams, who posted 14 points and six steals, and Naomi Parker, who had 14 points and six rebounds. What's more, Adams also racked up four boards, the most she's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sarah Coble, who earned five points and 13 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Steinbrenner smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Sickles' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jadyn Watts, who shot 4-for-6 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 boards. The match was Watts' 17th in a row with at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsey Sharpe, who scored 17 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds.

Steinbrenner's loss dropped their record down to 23-3. As for Sickles, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Steinbrenner will challenge Mitchell at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Steinbrenner is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.8 points per game this season. As for Sickles, they will square off against Sunlake at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
