Baseball Game Preview: Smethport Hubbers vs. Johnsonburg Rams

Smethport is 0-4 against Johnsonburg since April of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. The Hubbers will venture away from home to square off against the Rams at 4:00 p.m. Smethport has given up an average of 13.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Smethport is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Monday. They lost 16-5 to Coudersport.

Smethport saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zach Hungiville, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double. Owen Rounsville also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Johnsonburg couldn't beat Elk County Catholic on Monday even though they stacked five runs on them in the fifth inning. The Rams fell 12-8 to the Crusaders. The defeat continues a trend for the Rams in their meetings with the Crusaders: they've now lost four in a row.

Derrick Beimel made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Louie Bonini, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Johnsonburg's loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Smethport, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Smethport came up short against Johnsonburg in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 7-2. Can the Hubbers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
