Softball Game Preview: McCall-Donnelly Vandals vs. Weiser Wolverines

McCall-Donnelly is 0-10 against Weiser since March of 2021 but things could change on Monday. McCall-Donnelly will square off against Weiser at 6:00 p.m. The contest will give McCall-Donnelly their first taste of in-conference action this season.

McCall-Donnelly is headed into Monday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game dating back to last season last Saturday. They came up short against Lakeland, falling 10-4.

Harper Ferguson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Jill Thomas also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Weiser had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three last Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Warhawks. 12 seems to be a good number for the Wolverines as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Madi Janicek was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Janicek was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Weiser got a massive performance out of Ali Navarrete, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Ellie Shirts was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3.

Weiser kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matchups.

Weiser's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for McCall-Donnelly, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
