Taylorville and Mt. Zion are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2014, but not for long. The Taylorville Tornadoes will square off against the Mt. Zion Braves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Last Friday, Taylorville came up short against Columbia and fell 35-27.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Clark Durbin, who picked up 137 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Baron Odam, who threw for 170 yards and two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, after only ten points in their last game, Mt. Zion made sure to put some points up on the board against Salem on Friday. Mt. Zion was the clear victor by a 34-14 margin over Salem. A big part of the win came down to the chemistry between Keller Stocks and his top target Jacob Harvey. Stocks threw for 313 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 14.9 yards per attempt while Harvey picked up 217 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Harvey showed off some serious burst, connecting on a big catch for 65 yards. Joseph (Joey) Jordan helped Stocks out on the ground, picking up 53 receiving yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 48 yards.

Taylorville now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Mt. Zion, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Taylorville suffered a grim 28-6 defeat to Mt. Zion in their previous matchup back in September of 2023. Thankfully for Taylorville, Makobi Adams (who threw for 232 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground) won't be suiting up this time.
