Baseball Recap: Franklin Comes Up Short

Franklin extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-7 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Portsmouth Christian Academy Eagles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tornadoes of the 19-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Portsmouth Christian Academy, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since May 23, 2024.

For Portsmouth Christian Academy's part, Logan Summers made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Summers has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Landon Hasty was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Cai Summers was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Franklin will take on rival Mascenic Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Portsmouth Christian Academy is set to challenge their familiar foe Farmington at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
