Baseball Game Preview: Caldwell Redskins vs. Shenandoah Zeps

The Caldwell Redskins will head out to challenge the Shenandoah Zeps at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Caldwell has ten straight victories, Shenandoah has 14 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Caldwell's win against Fort Frye wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Redskins skirted past the Cadets 9-7. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 11, 2022, but that streak is no more.

Meanwhile, Shenandoah lost 14-5 to Meadowbrook on Saturday.

Hayden Lagneaux and Brody Brown did some serious damage despite the final result: Lagneaux went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Brown went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Lagneaux has brought in this season.

Caldwell's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Shenandoah, their loss dropped their record down to 0-11.

Caldwell came out on top in a nail-biter against Shenandoah in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Redskins since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
