Baseball Game Preview: Newkirk Tigers vs. Tonkawa Buccaneers

Newkirk hasn't had much luck against Tonkawa recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Tigers will face off against the Buccaneers at 5:30 p.m. Newkirk will be strutting in after a victory while Tonkawa will be coming in after a loss.

Newkirk will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against Ponca City on Friday. The Tigers put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 10-4 win. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.

Grady Wood was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. He has become a key player for Newkirk: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 9-12-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyson Thiel, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Tonkawa suffered their closest defeat since March 2, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of Ponca City by a score of 8-6. The Buccaneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Newkirk's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-13-1. As for Tonkawa, their loss dropped their record down to 20-9.
