Softball Game Preview: Sandalwood Saints vs. Andrew Jackson Tigers

The Sandalwood Saints will head out to take on the Andrew Jackson Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Sandalwood will be strutting in after a victory while Andrew Jackson will be coming in after a loss.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Sandalwood turned things around against Englewood on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 19-0 margin over the Rams. That 19 run margin sets a new team best for the Saints this season.

Sydney Gwinn was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gwinn was also solid in the batter's box, scoring four runs while going 1-for-3. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Sandalwood got a massive performance out of Madison Seprish, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That's the most runs Seprish has posted since back in April of 2024. Emmie Dawley was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1.

Sandalwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Andrew Jackson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against Episcopal School of Jacksonville, falling 13-2. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Tigers couldn't push the score so high this time.

Andrew Jackson's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Sandalwood, their record now sits at 3-8.

Everything went Sandalwood's way against Andrew Jackson in their previous matchup back in April of 2022, as Sandalwood made off with a 12-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sandalwood since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
