Softball Game Preview: Carey Blue Devils vs. Mohawk Warriors

For the second straight game, Carey will face off against Mohawk. The Blue Devils will head out on the road to square off against the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Carey has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Carey fell victim to Mohawk and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Warriors, falling 12-0. The Blue Devils have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

For Mohawk's part, Aubrey Gottfried was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Gottfried has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Katie Woodland was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Mallory Brickner was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Mohawk always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Carey's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Mohawk, their record now sits at 10-2.

Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Carey hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Mohawk struggles in that department as they've averaged .353. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
