Softball Game Preview: Liberty Charter Lions vs. San Diego Cavers

The Liberty Charter Lions will challenge the San Diego Cavers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Liberty Charter has struggled recently with seven defeats in a row, while San Diego will arrive with three straight wins.

Liberty Charter is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell 10-6 to Santa Fe Christian on Wednesday.

Briza Pelayo was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Julia Peterson also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, San Diego had just enough and edged out Francis Parker 9-7 on Friday.

Diana Martinez made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Juliana Magana was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Madison McNamara, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-3.

San Diego's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Liberty Charter, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.
