Basketball Recap: Willa Lewis' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Madison County over Rappahannock County

Madison County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 37-33 heartbreaker at the hands of Rappahannock County. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Rappahannock County this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 56-36 back in January.

Madison County's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Willa Lewis, who posted nine points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. That's the most steals Lewis has posted since back in January of 2024. Michelle Thompson was another key player, putting up nine points and six steals.

Even though they lost, Madison County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 19 consecutive games.

Madison County's defeat dropped their record down to 5-18. As for Rappahannock County, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-8.

As of now, neither Madison County nor Rappahannock County have any future games scheduled.
