General McLane has won four straight games at home, while Fairview has won four straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Lancers will welcome the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (General McLane 1.6, Fairview 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
General McLane is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering McDowell just ended the team's eight-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 1-0.
General McLane saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Charlie Swanson, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Fairview narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Girard 7-6.
Tyler Benford and Vinny Campoli made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Benford pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Campoli tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. At the plate, Benford went 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Campoli got on base in all five of his plate appearances. Those three hits gave Benford a new career-high.
In other batting news, Robert Benford was incredible, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
Fairview has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for General McLane, their loss dropped their record down to 13-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. General McLane has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Fairview struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
