Football Recap: Hawthorne Hornets vs. Williston Red Devils
Hawthorne extended their postseason success on Friday against Williston. They blew past the Williston Red Devils 28-7. With the Hornets ahead 20-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Keenon Johnson was his usual excellent self, rushing for 172 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. His rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his eighth straight game with at least 122 rushing yards. Hawthorne also got help from Dacarion Debose, who showed off his sure hands for 101 receiving yards.
Hawthorne was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 200 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in December of 2023.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Hawthorne's defense and their four sacks. Ethan Thomas was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up 3.5 himself. Another thorn in Williston's side was Jaheim Darby, who picked up 0.5 sacks and made 13 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Hawthorne pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 26.2 points. As for Williston, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-5.
Hawthorne will take on Madison County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Madison County will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Hawthorne surely won't give up without a fight. Williston does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
