            Baseball Recap: Newark Memorial Cougars vs. American Eagles        
        
		
        
        
            For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Newark Memorial and American meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again  on Tuesday. The Cougars came out on top against the Eagles by a score of  5-2. For the Cougars, this counts as revenge for the   5-3 victory the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another  back in April of 2024.
 Connor Murphy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned  (and one unearned) run on six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't  given up  more than two  walks in nine consecutive appearances.

 On the hitting side,  Brian Covarrubias Jr and  Malosi Gaoteote did most of the damage at the plate:  Covarrubias Jr  went 3-for-4 with two  runs, one  triple,  and one  double, while  Gaoteote  went 1-for-4 with one  home run and four  RBI. Those  four  RBI gave  Gaoteote a new career-high.
Newark Memorial's win bumped their record up to 11-3. As for American, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-11.
Newark Memorial will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Eagles: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled  at 4:00  p.m.  on Thursday.
