Baseball Recap: Ellenville Takes a Loss

Ellenville might've scored the first runs on Thursday, but it was Rhinebeck who claimed the real prize. The Blue Devils took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hawks. Surprisingly, this marked the Blue Devils' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Joseph Valenti was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.6 strikeouts per game. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Ryan Conklin made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game.

Ellenville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Rhinebeck, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ellenville will welcome Highland at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Rhinebeck, they will face off against Millbrook at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
