Baseball Game Preview: Robert C. Byrd Eagles vs. Keyser Golden Tornado

The Robert C. Byrd Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Keyser Golden Tornado at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Keyser took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Robert C. Byrd, who comes in off a win.

The home team had come away the winner the last six times Robert C. Byrd and Elkins had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over the Tigers on Wednesday. The game was the first time the Eagles have beaten the Tigers on their field since April 2, 2022.

Ashton Shaffer and Xavier Carvelli did most of the damage at the plate: Shaffer got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Carvelli scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That home run marked the first that Shaffer launched this season. Another player making a difference was Cooper Floyd, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Keyser didn't have quite enough to beat Frankfort on Wednesday and fell 6-5. The Golden Tornado haven't had much luck with the Falcons recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Sawyer Rodeheaver was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Hunter Harr was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Robert C. Byrd's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Keyser, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-6.
