Football Game Preview: Waverly Vikings vs. Beatrice Orangemen

Two dominant backs in Nathan Axmann and Merrick Johnson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Waverly Vikings will head out on the road to take on the Beatrice Orangemen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Waverly has five straight wins, Beatrice has 12 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Waverly barely beat Standing Bear the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Vikings took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 42-0 victory over the Grizzlies. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 35 points or more this season.

Brockston Teply looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 206 yards and three touchdowns on only 19 passes.

Waverly didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Max Leininger and Brady Schieffer.

Meanwhile, Beatrice came up short against Hastings on Friday and fell 14-7.

Beatrice's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Waverly, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.

Everything came up roses for Waverly against Beatrice in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 62-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
