It'll be a Battle of the Bugs New Athens Yellow Jackets challenge Nashville Hornets at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. New Athens is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

New Athens took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top against Gibault Catholic by a score of 7-3. The Yellow Jackets haven't had any issues with the Hawks recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Bethany Dachsteiner made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carinne Darin, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Morgan Schatte also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Nashville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 14-4 to Sparta.

Nashville's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for New Athens, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

New Athens suffered a grim 15-4 defeat to Nashville in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can New Athens avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
