Preview: Omaha North Vikings vs. Omaha Central Eagles
Omaha North is 0-10 against Omaha Central since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. Having just played yesterday, the Omaha North Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Omaha Central Eagles at 3:45 p.m. on February 10th. Omaha North knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 contests -- so hopefully Omaha Central likes a good challenge.
Omaha North stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Buena Vista 76-37 at home. 76 seems to be a good number for Omaha North as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Mynor Strong was his usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with six assists and six steals. He hasn't dropped below 16 points for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerri'on Williams, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Omaha Central faced Bellevue West in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Omaha Central fell just short of Bellevue West by a score of 71-69. Omaha Central has struggled against Bellevue West recently, as their game on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Omaha North pushed their record up to 16-2 with that victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.8 points per game. As for Omaha Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-5.
Omaha North might still be hurting after the 59-39 loss they got from Omaha Central in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Omaha Central's Devin Holmon, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds.
