Baseball Recap: Laguna Hills Triumphs

It was a Battle of the Birds when Laguna Hills challenged Calvary Chapel on Friday. The Hawks narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Eagles 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hawks have posted since March 7th.

Nic Park looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. He has become a key player for Laguna Hills: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Laguna Hills' win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Michael Gould, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Damian Youngman was another, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Laguna Hills has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Calvary Chapel, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-12-1.

Coming up, Laguna Hills will head out to square off against University at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Calvary Chapel, they will face off against Oxford Academy at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
