Southern Nash takes loss despite strong efforts from Israel Whitaker and Brandon Hill

Recap: Southern Nash Firebirds vs. Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets

After flying high against the Nash Central Bulldogs last Friday, the Southern Nash Firebirds came back down to earth. Southern Nash took a 47-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yellowjackets. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Southern Nash in their matchups with the Yellowjackets: they've now lost three in a row.

Brandon Hill and Israel Whitaker certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Hill scored seven points along with eight rebounds, while Whitaker scored seven points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of James Viclk, who scored two points along with nine rebounds and three blocks.

Southern Nash has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Roanoke Rapids, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southern Nash won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st. Bunn is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Roanoke Rapids, they will be playing at home against the Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Northern Nash has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 361 points over their last five matchups.
