Basketball Game Preview: Asheboro Blue Comets vs. Montgomery Central Timberwolves

Asheboro is on a three-game streak of home losses, Montgomery Central a 14-game streak of away losses dating back to last season, but someone's luck will change on Friday. The Asheboro Blue Comets will host the Montgomery Central Timberwolves at 7:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Last Friday, Asheboro came up short against Ledford and fell 64-56.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 85-40, which was the final score in Montgomery Central's tilt against Oak Grove on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Timberwolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 645th, while the Grizzlies are ranked 170th).

Despite the defeat, Montgomery Central saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Christopher Curtis dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. Curtis is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kameron Robinson, who posted eight points and eight boards.

Montgomery Central's loss dropped their record down to 0-14. As for Asheboro, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.

Everything came up roses for Asheboro against Montgomery Central in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as the squad secured an 85-27 win. Does Asheboro have another victory up their sleeve, or will Montgomery Central turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
