Basketball Recap: Montbello Comes Up Short

Montbello played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Thomas Jefferson Spartans and fell 69-38. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 330th, while the Spartans are ranked 126th).

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kian Martin, who went 5 for 11 en route to 10 points and five boards. Daniel Green was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Shane Curry continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Thomas Jefferson, going 8 of 19 on his way to 21 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Curry is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Pickens, who posted 11 points and six boards.

Montbello's loss dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Thomas Jefferson, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.

Montbello will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Hinkley at 6:00 p.m. Montbello is facing Hinkley at the right time seeing as Hinkley is stuck on a 13-game losing streak. As for Thomas Jefferson, they will venture away from home to face off against Regis Groff at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th.
