Basketball Recap: Woodland Park Piles Up the Points Against James Irwin

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Woodland Park on Wednesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew the James Irwin Jaguars out of the water with a 74-34 final score. The Panthers pushed the score to 56-28 by the end of the third, a deficit the Jaguars had little chance of recovering from.

Woodland Park was led to victory by Cody Becker and Zach Summeril. Becker went 9 for 16 on his way to 20 points, while Summeril made all 5 shots he took racking up 13 points. Those 20 points gave Becker a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Johnson, who posted four points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Woodland Park was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Jonathan Kimble and Jace Remo certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Kimble put up eight points along with nine rebounds and three blocks, while Remo scored 13 points and four steals. Remo has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played.

The win (which was Woodland Park's fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-8. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.5 points per game. As for James Irwin, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-9.

Woodland Park will face off against Lamar at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lamar is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.9 points per game this season. As for James Irwin, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the James Irwin Jaguars challenge the La Junta Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
