On the hitting side, Erik Alamillo and Gavin Welch did most of the damage at the plate: Alamillo went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double, while Welch scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Strasburg is undefeated when Welch posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise. RJ Weaver also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Platte Valley was not the first on the board last Tuesday, but they got there more often. They skirted past Weld Central 2-1. The Broncos haven't had any issues with the Rebels recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Platte Valley also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Dagan Gomez gave up a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up nine Ks. Gomez has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Nick Silvas was excellent, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Strasburg has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .476. However, it's not like Platte Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .432. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Strasburg took their victory against Platte Valley in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 12-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
