Basketball Recap: West Brunswick Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

West Brunswick can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 56-39 win over the Western Harnett Eagles. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 199th, while the Eagles are ranked 501st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

West Brunswick's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jahyra Mastry, who posted 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'Kya Johnson, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 13 points and six rebounds.

When it comes to explaining why Western Harnett lost, don't look at Faith Woodard. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Amaya Pruitt was another key player, putting up seven points.

West Brunswick now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Western Harnett, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.

West Brunswick wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 62-14 victory against Ascend Leadership on the 28th. As for Western Harnett, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-38 loss against Hoke County on the 28th.
