Football Recap: Alamosa Mean Moose vs. Monte Vista Pirates
Alamosa took care of business in their home opener on Friday (and then some). They put the hurt on the Monte Vista Pirates with a sharp 28-8 victory. That's more bragging rights for the Mean Moose, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Dyson Woodward had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.6 yards per carry, and also threw for 168 yards and a touchdown while completing 75% of his passes. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in rushing yards. Zane Zook was another key player, gaining 151 total yards and a touchdown.
Alamosa was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 400 total yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monte Vista only gained 231.
Despite the loss, Monte Vista had strong showings from Alex Marquez, who picked up 82 receiving yards and a touchdown, and Jacob Pacheco, who rushed for 89 yards. Marquez got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 50 yards.
Alamosa will challenge Banning Lewis Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Monte Vista, they are taking a road trip to square off against Rye at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Rye focused on turnovers this week as team gave up seven last Thursday.
