Basketball Recap: Morningside Academy Piles Up the Points Against Merritt Island Christian

With a playoff win on the line, Morningside Academy rose to the challenge on Saturday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 62-34 victory over the Merritt Island Christian Cougars. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 contests by 24 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Arianah Wallace, who posted 19 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 19 games she's played dating back to last season. Emmilina Miller was another key player, putting up 11 points and six assists.

Morningside Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Merritt Island Christian only racked up five assists.

Merritt Island Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Keri Shea, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance gave Shea a new career-high in rebounds. Anna Lynn Hausmann also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Morningside Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.6 points over those games. As for Merritt Island Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 12-12.

Morningside Academy and Merritt Island Christian are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Morningside Academy will face off against North Tampa Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. North Tampa Christian Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.2 points per game this season. As for Merritt Island Christian, they will challenge Altamonte Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
