Preview: Purvis Tornadoes vs. Forrest County Agricultural Aggies
Purvis is 2-8 against Forrest County Agricultural since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Purvis Tornadoes will head out on the road to take on the Forrest County Agricultural Aggies at 7:30 p.m. Purvis knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Forrest County Agricultural likes a good challenge.
Even though Purvis has not done well against Lawrence County recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Purvis escaped with a win against Lawrence County by the margin of a single free throw, 61-60. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
It was another big night for Jacoby Robinson, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Judd Gipson, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Forrest County Agricultural's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 67-44 walloping at the hands of Sumrall. While losing is never fun, Forrest County Agricultural can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 185th, while Sumrall is ranked 50th).
Purvis pushed their record up to 11-3 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points per game. As for Forrest County Agricultural, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-12.
Purvis took a serious blow against Forrest County Agricultural when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 67-30. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Purvis was down 40-11.
