Softball Recap: Boardman Beats Jefferson Area for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Boardman waltzed into their contest on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Jefferson Area Falcons by a score of 7-2. For the Spartans, this counts as revenge for the 3-1 victory the Falcons walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2016.

Gabi Sferra spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 12 Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Addie Rudge, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one triple and one RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenzie Cherne, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.

Boardman pushed their record up to 21-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Jefferson Area, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-13.

Boardman and Jefferson Area are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Spartans will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Geneva at 5:00 p.m. Boardman's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for Jefferson Area, they will challenge Perry at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pirates' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Falcons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
