Basketball Recap: Five Straight Home Victories for Sierra Grande

Sierra Grande had won four straight home games dating back to last season and Jaylyn Quezada did her part to make it five on Saturday. The Sierra Grande Panthers breezed by the Moffat Cowboys to the tune of 68-20 thanks in part to Quezada, who went 9 of 14 on her way to 21 points and five steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played.

Another player making a difference was Yazmin Molina, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. Those 14 points gave her a new career-high.

Despite the defeat, Moffat saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kandra Pollard went 6 for 13 en route to 12 points in addition to five rebounds and four blocks. Those four blocks set a new season-high mark for Pollard.

Sierra Grande is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.4 points per game. As for Moffat, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sierra Grande has already played their next contest (against Centennial), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Moffat has also has no score uploaded for their next game, this one against Cotopaxi.
