Softball Recap: Organ Mountain Wins High-Profile Match Against Alamogordo

Organ Mountain faced Alamogordo in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Knights were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Tigers. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by seven runs or more this season.

Ariyah Cordova spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. Those earned runs marked the first that she tossed this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Caillin Reyes, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Arriana Fuentez, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.

Organ Mountain's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Alamogordo, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Organ Mountain will take on Las Cruces at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldawgs will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Knights surely won't give up without a fight. As for Alamogordo, they will venture away from home to face off against Mayfield at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
