Baseball Recap: Hermantown Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Cloquet, Hermantown was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They never let the Proctor Rails get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Hawks considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Jimmy Bartsch made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2025. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

In other batting news, Bryce Lundeen and Ethan McCubbin did most of the damage at the plate: Lundeen went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while McCubbin went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs McCubbin has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Jax Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double.

Hermantown now has a winning record of 2-1.

Coming up, Hermantown will head out to face off against Cloquet at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lumberjacks will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Hawks surely won't give up without a fight. As for Proctor, they will challenge Mesabi East at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Giants' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Rails' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
