Baseball Recap: Bear Creek Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Bear Creek, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They walked away with an 8-3 victory over the Edison Vikings on Monday. That's more bragging rights for the Bruins, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Kevin Johnson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jaxson Bayani was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Bear Creek's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 11-12 when he doesn't). Logan Peterson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Bear Creek is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Edison, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-13-1.

Bear Creek will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Vikings: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
