Baseball Recap: Odyssey Institute Minotaur vs. Tonopah Valley Phoenix
Odyssey Institute fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Tonopah Valley on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Phoenix by a score of 7-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Phoenix this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-1 back in March.
Zeke Shepard was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Shepard wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Justin Bennett, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Amitoj Singh also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Odyssey Institute's loss dropped their record down to 8-11-1. As for Tonopah Valley, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-11-1.
As of now, neither Odyssey Institute nor the Phoenix have any future games scheduled.
