Softball Recap: McDonough Takes a Loss

McDonough extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 7-10 in the process. They lost 14-8 to the North Point Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-3 back in March.

As for North Point, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. The result was nothing new for North Point, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For North Point's part, Sophia Weedin made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over 4.1 innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave Weedin a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Blaney, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Aminah Ayyad, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

McDonough has already played their next game (against Patuxent), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. North Point also has no score uploaded for their next matchup, this one against Suitland.
