Softball Recap: 17 Straight Home Wins for South Brunswick

South Brunswick pushed their score to 16 the last time they played Ashley, but on Friday they couldn't quite do it again. South Brunswick's pitcher stepped up to hand Ashley a 3-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Screaming Eagle: they've now won seven in a row.

Not much got past Kina Davis, who gave up just a hit and racked up 15 Ks to keep Ashley off the board. Davis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Carly Clewis was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Tabby Martin was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

South Brunswick hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most two strikeouts in four consecutive games.

South Brunswick pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Ashley, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

Looking ahead, South Brunswick will square off against West Brunswick at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ashley, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 10-4 defeat against Jack Britt on the 29th.
