Basketball Recap: Desoto Skates Past Marvell Academy with Ease

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but DeSoto had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They breezed past the Marvell Academy Eagles to the tune of 69-32. The Thunderbirds have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 22 matchups by 21 points or more this season.

DeSoto's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Andersyn Watson led the charge by dropping a double-double with 16 points and 17 boards. Those 17 rebounds gave Watson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kylee Jo Holder, who went 6-for-9 to rack up 16 points along with seven boards and three steals.

DeSoto smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in seven consecutive contests.

DeSoto has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 games, which provided a nice bump to their 34-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.6 points over those games. As for Marvell Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-7.

As of now, neither DeSoto nor Marvell Academy have any future games scheduled.
