Softball Game Preview: Valencia Tigers vs. Whitney Wildcats

The Valencia Tigers will square off against the Whitney Wildcats at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Valencia is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.

On Friday, Valencia needed a bit of extra time to put away Calvary Chapel. They skirted past the Eagles 8-7.

Rihanna Smith was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Cassie Queen, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 18 runs the game before, Whitney was a bit more limited in their match on Tuesday. They lost 9-2 to Cerritos.

Whitney saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chiugo Anyama, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Valencia's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-10. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Whitney, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

Valencia was able to grind out a solid win over Whitney in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, winning 6-1. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
