Soccer Game Preview: Gainesville vs. Lanier

The Gainesville Red Elephants will take on the Lanier Longhorns at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Considering both teams were shutout in their prior games, the pair is probably coming into this one with something to prove.

Gainesville came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 10-0 to Johns Creek. While losing is never fun, Gainesville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 311th, while Johns Creek are ranked 54th).

Meanwhile, Lanier was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Roswell, falling 3-0.

Lanier's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Gainesville, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-8.

Gainesville came out on top in a nail-biter against Lanier in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. Will Gainesville repeat their success, or does Lanier has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
