It's playoff time, and Canyon had no trouble coming through when it counted. They came out on top against the Maranatha Minutemen by a score of 10-6 on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Comanches considering their two-run performance the match before.
Canyon got a great performance from Kemuel Zhang as he pitched six innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Zhang has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Camden Goetz was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Blake Helsper was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Canyon's victory bumped their record up to 19-10. As for Maranatha, they dropped their record down to 18-10-1 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Coming up, Canyon will face off against Servite at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games the Friars have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. Maranatha does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
