The Caston Comets will venture away from home to square off against the Peru Tigers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Caston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Caston took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Twin Lakes, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Comets came out on top in a nail-biter against the Indians on Friday, sneaking past 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Comets have posted since May 12, 2025.
Natalie Warner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hadlie Coffing, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Peru came up short against Mississinewa on Wednesday, falling 21-3. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Peru saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Steele, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
The win made it two in a row for Caston and bumps their season record up to 5-3. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Peru, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
Peru's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Caston has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Peru, though, as they've been averaging 9.8 hits. Given Caston's sizable advantage in that area, the Tigers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Caston suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to Peru in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Comets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
