Basketball Game Preview: Monte Vista Pirates vs. Montezuma-Cortez Panthers

Monte Vista and Montezuma-Cortez are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2016, but not for long. The Monte Vista Pirates will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers at 5:00 p.m.

Monte Vista is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 58 points on Friday, they were much more limited against Centauri on Saturday. They were dealt a 50-23 loss at the hands of the Falcons. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while the Falcons are ranked 34th).

Allessah Archuleta put forth a good effort for the losing side as she posted 11 points and five steals. Those five steals gave her a new career-high.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Montezuma-Cortez challenged Ignacio on Tuesday. Montezuma-Cortez slipped by Ignacio 38-37.

Monte Vista has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season. As for Montezuma-Cortez, their win bumped their record up to 6-15.

Everything came up roses for Monte Vista against Montezuma-Cortez in their previous meeting back in January, as the squad secured a 55-28 victory. Does Monte Vista have another victory up their sleeve, or will Montezuma-Cortez turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
