Softball Recap: Calvary Chapel Comes Up Short

Calvary Chapel had lost five straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 5-15 to make it six. They came up short against the Buena Park Coyotes, falling 11-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Coyotes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on April 7th.

As for Buena Park, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-8 record this season. Considering they have won 11 matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Buena Park's part, Mia Gonzalez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Gonzalez has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double.

In other batting news, Buena Park let Layla Hinojos and Leanne Overly run wild. Hinojos went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Overly went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs Overly has posted since back in February. Emma Cazares was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Coincidentally, Calvary Chapel and Buena Park will both be playing Katella the next time they take the field. The Coyotes will head out to face the Knights at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Eagles will host them at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
