Basketball Recap: Jaida Johnson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead James F. Byrnes over Marietta

James F. Byrnes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. The contest between them and the Marietta Blue Devils didn't end well, with the James F. Byrnes Rebels falling 62-47.

Several Rebels players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaida Johnson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 16 rebounds. Johnson has become a key player for James F. Byrnes: the team is 6-1 when she posts at least ten boards, but 1-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlyn Evans, who posted 13 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, James F. Byrnes smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Marietta's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Leah DeWitt, who went 9 of 19 on her way to 26 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. The matchup was DeWitt's 13th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyann Senior, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.

James F. Byrnes' loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Marietta, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.

James F. Byrnes didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 74-25 win against Wade Hampton on the 4th. As for Marietta, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 54-49 defeat against Bishop Kenny on the 3rd.
