Baseball Recap: Wickenburg Has No Trouble Against Gilbert Classical Academy

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against North Valley Christian Academy, Wickenburg was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They blew past the Gilbert Classical Academy Spartans 14-3. The result was nothing new for the Wranglers, who have now won five contests by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Hazen Jones made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Wickenburg: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 3-6 otherwise. Jones was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zane Echols, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cruz Reyes, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Wickenburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gilbert Classical Academy only posted an OBP of .333.

Wickenburg moved to 6-7 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Gilbert Classical Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7-1 record this season.

Wickenburg will be playing at home against St. John Paul II Catholic at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lions will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Wranglers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Gilbert Classical Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Pima at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Spartans are facing the Roughriders at the right time seeing as the Roughriders are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
