Basketball Game Preview: Shawnee Mission West Vikings vs. Gardner-Edgerton Trailblazers

The Shawnee Mission West Vikings will head out on the road to square off against the Gardner-Edgerton Trailblazers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Shawnee Mission West is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.

Last Tuesday, Shawnee Mission West took a blow against Olathe West, falling 84-51. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 191st, while the Owls are ranked 36th).

Meanwhile, Gardner-Edgerton had to suffer through a 67-37 loss at the hands of Shawnee Mission South. The contest marked the Trailblazers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Gardner-Edgerton has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season. As for Shawnee Mission West, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Shawnee Mission West came out on top in a nail-biter against Gardner-Edgerton in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, sneaking past 56-53. The rematch might be a little tougher for Shawnee Mission West since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
