Basketball Recap: Fort Thomas Starts Season with Win Against Morenci

Fort Thomas had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against the Morenci Wildcats by a score of 62-50 on Tuesday. The Apaches haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Fort Thomas found their leader in sophomore Leilynn Wesley, who went 5-for-11 on her way to 13 points. Another player making a difference was Makayla Chapman, who posted four points and seven boards.

Despite the loss, Morenci still got an impressive performance from Tiara Jones, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Rozlyn Funari, who scored six points in addition to 12 boards and three steals.

Morenci's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Fort Thomas has already played their next contest, a 61-13 victory against Dishchii'bikoh on the 2nd. As for Morenci, they will face off against Empire at 7:00 p.m. on the 4th.
