Basketball Recap: Epiphany Comes Up Short

Epiphany lost against Wayne Country Day two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Epiphany Falcons were dealt a 75-31 loss at the hands of the Wayne Country Day Chargers. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 554th, while the Chargers are ranked 49th).

Wayne Country Day got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Camden Tyler out in front who posted seven points along with 13 assists and eight steals. With that strong performance, Tyler is now averaging an impressive 8.1 assists per game. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Mercer, who put up 21 points and six boards.

Epiphany's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Wayne Country Day, they are on a roll lately: they've won 19 of their last 20 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season.

It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Epiphany Falcons duke it out with the Wayne Christian Eagles at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Epiphany is facing Wayne Christian at the right time seeing as Wayne Christian is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Wayne Country Day, they will venture away from home to face off against Greenfield at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wayne Country Day knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 20 contests -- so hopefully Greenfield likes a good challenge.
